MODELING YOUR PASTELS EASILY
Put a quantity of pigment on a piece of glass depending on how big you want your pastel to be, I usualy put 20 ~25 grs for my pastels.
Make a hole in the center and add some water (1 tee spoon). Start mixing from the inside.
Add more water carrefully untill you don't feel anymore grain while going on mixing. If you think the mud is too wet, add more pigment.
Model the pastel the shape you want, Mine is cubic but if you like it to be round, just put it in the middle of a news paper and roll it carefully.
You should not have anymore water on the glass when your pastel is done and the pastel should not shear or stretch when you pass lightly the tools on it to finish modeling.
At the end, before leaving your pastel to dry, you can write a reference on it with a small flat screw driver. Put it on a flat support. The drying time depends on the external temperature or of the drying room. Under a direct sunlight at 30° C, a pastel made at 11.00 AM is dry around 17.00 PM.

If you model a pastel that is too wet, it will need much more time to dry. The trick is not to add the last water you think it needs.
